Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional work experience with academic student services in higher education is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. Experience with transfer students or college transfer processes preferred. Previous experience with establishing a new campus initiative highly valued. Experience with Banner and Degree Works is preferred.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of and experience with academic student services, program development, college recruitment, and academic advising.
• Knowledge of best practices, policies, and procedures for transfer students; ability to represent the institution professionally, interpret College policies, respond to inquiries and advise students accurately.
• Knowledge of student development theory and transition issues for two- and four-year transfer students; ability to translate theory into practice and create transition support programs for students.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations of enrolled students, prospective students, families, staff, faculty, administrators, and personnel from other institutions. Discretion and knowledge of FERPA regulations essential.
• Ability to work independently and complete tasks under tight deadlines; demonstrated record of successful collaboration in serving students and establishing new programs; ability to take initiative and demonstrate resourcefulness.
• Must be detail-oriented with strong organization and time-management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database, and document imaging is required. Knowledge of Transferology software, Banner, and Degree Works is a plus.

1. Provides leadership in advancing the profile of the TRC and in advocating for transfer student success at the College. Advises, counsels, and advocates for current and prospective College of Charleston students in the areas of transfer admissions and transfer credit evaluations. Serves as a primary source of information for current and prospective transfer students and acts as the first point of contact for new and continuing transfer students, providing accurate, timely, relevant transfer information. Interprets and communicates policies to potential students, faculty, staff, administrators, and other institutions. Conducts one-on-one meetings with potential and incoming students to explain transfer credit evaluations and advise about program of study options. Completes unofficial evaluations for potential students; assists with official evaluations for incoming undergraduate students during periods of peak activity. Refers students to other campus resources as appropriate.

2. Develops and leads workshops for prospective, current and admitted students on topics such as the College’s transfer requirements and processes, technology-driven planning tools and resources, general education requirements, institutional policies, and the connection between majors, careers, and transferrable skills. Participates in transfer-related presentations and orientations at the College of Charleston and SC 2-year institutions, and assists in the development and implementation of outreach and retention programs to meet student needs and the strategic enrollment plans of the College of Charleston. Provides expert advice in all areas of undergraduate transfer (e.g. credit evaluation procedures, academic regulations).

3. Coordinates activity between the Office of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, and the Academic Advising and Planning Center to facilitate a seamless transfer experience for students from admission to declaration of major in an academic department. Researches, summarizes and provides faculty with documentation on newly presented and non-standard courses. Maintains transfer credit inventory (articulation) in Banner and ensures accuracy. Preserves and catalogs documentation of departmental evaluations, international credential evaluations, and student-provided documentation. Assists with study abroad and coursework-elsewhere evaluations during peak activity periods. Assists with the management of the TRC e-mail account, responding to inquiries and making appropriate referrals.

4. Develops and maintains degree completion guides for students attending 2-year South Carolina public institutions who are interested in transferring to College of Charleston. Responsible for current content on the TRC web pages, social media, and Transferology profile. Assists with assessment, data collection, reporting, and analysis of TRC data. Assists with the maintenance of the College of Charleston Transferology subscription.
