Minimum Requirements

Graduate of an accredited medical school. M.D. or D.O. Licensure in the State of South Carolina (or license eligible at the time of employment). At least 5 years of primary care practice experience preferred. ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) approved board certification in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or equivalent. Current CPR/AED certification. Valid Drug Enforcement Administration certification for prescription of controlled substances. Demonstrated ability and sensitivity in working effectively with people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives and have an ability to work collaboratively with provider, professional, and support staff to provide an integrated health and wellness experience for the student. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of medicine especially as it applies to college health. Knowledge of techniques involved in the care and treatment of patients. Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, rules and regulations and policies and standards used in rendering medical care in a college health setting. Knowledge of recent developments and pertinent federal and state laws, rules and regulations in the field of college health. Ability to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries. Experience working with nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Ideal candidates will have experience in college health and/or adolescent/young adult medicine. Individual contributors should be able to thrive in a collegial environment that is dedicated to evidenced based medicine in a relaxed atmosphere.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Occasional after hour work and travel may be required.

Activity

Provides quality health care to the student population with an emphasis on general medical care, young adult health issues, women’s health, musculoskeletal injuries, infectious disease, dermatology and mental health issues. Interpret electrocardiograms. Participate in quality improvement activities, peer review and medical risk management analysis.

Prepares medical histories and examines patients, diagnoses disorders, administers treatments and prescribes medication for the full spectrum of health care needs for students of all ages. Demonstrates a keen interest and knowledge of epidemiology and Travel Medicine.

Plays a key role in the training and evaluation of the medical staff of physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Provides day-to-day supervision and expertise to the nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
