AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY: The History Department of the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in African American history to begin in August 2018. Applicants who study the Antebellum era are especially welcome. Candidates must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in African-American history by August 2018. In addition to upper-level and graduate courses in African-American history, the ability to teach survey courses in the general education curriculum in pre-modern and/or modern history is essential.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Department of History M.A. and public history program, the African American Studies Program, the Carolina Lowcountry Atlantic World Program, and the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture. There are also several opportunities to work in the city of Charleston, including the development of the International African American Museum.

Candidates must have a firm commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts and sciences environment. Promise of excellence in teaching and research are required; teaching experience and publications are preferred. Initial interviews of selected applicants will be conducted via Skype.
